Road level too high

Reported via mobile anonymously at 14:42, Wed 19 June 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council 37 minutes later

Since Burford Road was resurfaced I ground the back of my car on the road when I try and back it out of my drive. This was never a problem before resurfacing. The new road is a few centimetres higher now and the camber in the middle of the road is much steeper and it takes me three or four goes to back out of my steep driveway without grounding my car. I have been told it would cost me £5 to £6 thousand to lower my drive - I can't afford this, and I really don't see that it is my problem to fix. I believe that all it needs is a bit more tarmac on the road at the bottom of my drive to level the road off. Or alternatively a very large steam roller to pack it down more! Please can you help - I am at my wits end and my car is getting more and more damaged. Thank you very much

  • A highways officer has inspected the road concerned and confirmed that the surface dressing treatment carried out was within the normal tolerances. The treatment would have only raised the carriageway level by approximately 10mm and is therefore unlikely to have caused a significant change. No specific address was provided but it was noted that the house where the map marker was situated does have a steeper driveway than other nearby houses. It would appear this may have been an issue before the recent works and no further action is proposed. The Council has a statutory right to maintain the highway and the treatment in this case was a thin surface dressing layer.
