Please paint double yellow lines

Reported via iOS in the Road Markings category anonymously at 17:03, Tue 11 June 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

Please paint double yellow lines on this bend. Vehicles regularly park and block the junction but it makes visibility impossible. It’s hard to navigate around them as we can’t see o coming traffic coming from the fire station. There have been multiple near misses on the section because of the parked vehicles. It needs to be made safer

  • The problem here is not the cars that are parked well, within highway code guidance and totally legally but the speed of traffic coming down Ormond Road from the fire station direction on the wrong side of the road without even realizing it as the white lines have worn away completely..If there was an accident in this location would the highway authority be liable as the motorist has no clue as to the center of the highway? Parking in Ormond road has become more and more of a problem as parking charges have increased in the town center and resident only parking has been introduced closer to the town center. Maybe it time for resident parking only? or resident parking and time limitation in the parking bays as it was before?

  • I think the original post is correct. The issue is the combination of cars parked on the eastbound carriageway just before the Trinder Road junction and cars parked on the westbound carriageway on the other side of the Trinder Road junction. This creates a needless narrowing of the road on the bend and prevents two way traffic even though elsewhere on Ormond Road two way traffic is possible. A very short stretch of double yellow lines would prevent this constriction.

The second post is really referring to the parking along the le goth of Ormond Road which is a separate issue and is not as dangerous as the construction on the bend.

  • This is a residential street with lots of Victorian terrace and large semi detached houses. most of the houses have no off street parking. you can not increase parking charges and residential parking schemes in the town center and not expect to displace this commuter parking further out. i suspect the people complaining about this are just trying to use the road as Wantage bypass!!!! and a race track!!!! with the immanent 20mph speed limit sight lines are more than adequate. We all have to navigate parked cars on the Highway if we chose to drive.
