Road markings are confusing… for others!

Reported via iOS in the Road Markings category anonymously at 18:42, Wednesday 5 June 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

At this roundabout, entering from Grimsbury towards Banbury (1st exit), gateway (2nd exit) and m40 (3rd exit) the left lane goes left + ahead, the second lane goes ahead and the right lane goes right.

With the second lane going straight, other motorists often go in this (middle) lane to go left. As you can imagine this causes chaos. The a422 towards Banbury is 2 lanes, so unless you can actually see the floor, it’s a fair assumption.

Just this evening, I used the left lane to go straight, as was heading left just after exiting roundabout at the second exit. A pickup truck in the middle lane and myself in the first lane had to enter reasonably quickly to use a gap in the traffic. He turned in to the side of me, only narrowly missing me (because I did an emergency stop) to turn left from middle lane. There is no need for 2 lanes to go straight ahead here, the left lane should be left turn only (the lane I was in), due to the increased traffic heading towards Banbury. I was correct in my driving according to the road markings, but it shouldn’t be this way.
