Whole cycle path route from where it narrows after new cycle path

Reported via desktop in the Vegetation & maintenance category anonymously at 17:43, Wed 22 May 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The whole cycle route on the shared paths on both sides is hard to ride, because of the overhanging hedges, also outgrowing hedges reducing paths to less that 50% availability in some parts, plus road signs at certain points taking up half the path. It's particularly hazardous on very wet days like today to cycle these routes. Please can the whole route up to North Oxford (at level of golf course be maintained.). It makes riders end up reverting to bus lane which can be more hazardous. The paths are not wide enough for a pedestrian and a cyclist to use at the same time. With thanks,

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Oxfordshire County Council at 17:43, Wed 22 May 2024

  • A couple of weeks ago I noted that some of the hedges on the golf course side had been cut down, but this didn't extend to the other side of the road. There is a pinch point too for pedestrians and cyclists from the toucan crossing over to Parkway, then up the hill to the bridge where cyclists and pedestrians are being directed - as the hedges are overgrown, more than once I see pedestrians stepping /cyclists into the bus lane and walking along that instead of using the path. If the hedges were cut back it would free up more path so there would be a chance of cyclists overtaking pedestrians on the way up the hill. With thanks,
