Parts of Swinford Toll Bridge falling away.
Reported via desktop by Cumnor Parish Council at 10:23, Thu 9 May 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council less than a minute later
I would like to report that a Cumnor Parish Councillor reported that on Saturday 4 May 2024 they witnessed rubble from underneath the bridge falling into the river. This occurred as an articulated lorry passed over the bridge. I understand that the bridge is privately owned but wondered if OCC have to survey the bridge for h&s and can pass on Councils concerns to the correct body.

Within the last two weeks two large HGVs got stuck on the Toll Bridge. The bridge had to be closed. The lorries damaged the bridge where you can see the stonework scraped away. Letting large HGVs use the bridge as a short cut from the A40 to the A34 is WRONG. Please introduce height barriers and single decker buses. The bridge will be destroyed one day by these monsters it was never designed for

HGVs are regularly using the Eynsham toll bridge as a shortcut from A34 to A40 I see there have been other reports of a similar nature The toll ridge was never designed to take the weight of such vehicules which regularly damage the sides of the bridge Surely it is only a matter of time before the bridge crumbles? I would be interested to know when the last H and S inspection was carried out? There used to be sign in Farmoor on the approach saying the road over the toll bridge is unsuitable for HGVs why has this been taken down? They should not be allowed!!

Please provide an update to my concerns reported at the end of August as I’ve heard nothing I now note that the Eynsham toll ridge wall has been badly damaged at end of bridge by toll booth clearly looks like a lorry has gone into it and the bricks are all loose along the bridge line
