Long-standing damage to Bridge and adjoining wall, undoubtedly as a result of inadequate road signage to ill inappropriate usage

Reported via desktop in the Bridges category anonymously at 11:46, Thursday 2 May 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

This beautiful Bridge is the valley damage in a number of places, is an eyesore and probably a health hazard

  • Agreed the eastward side of the bridge is also severely damaged with the brickwork destroyed in multiple places. Radcot Bridge is a Grade I listed structure and should not be in this state! There needs to be more signage about how narrow and steep this bridge is.

  • There are just not enough signs to prevent HGV drivers from taking this route. The signs that say "risk of grounding" are pretty pointless. The last southbound HGV driver I remonstrated with was of a EU origin and admitted he didn't know what the signs said, despite 9 of them from Clanfield to the bridge.

  • Thank you for your report. The defect has been listed for repair; however, we cannot provide a specific date at this time as other structures may be given a higher priority. The signage has been upgraded
