Blocked gullys

Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 12:00, Friday 26 April 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

On this corner coming, there are 2 blocked gullys which flood across the road when there has been rain. Difficult to see this water when travelling from Nettlebed and to avoid it, you have to use the other side of the road which is dangerous with oncoming traffic.

  • Obviously no one has been out recently as the road was flooded here again this morning after last night’s rain. So this must mean that the gully hasn’t been looted at and cleared. When will this be sorted?

  • Still not been looked at or sorted after more wet weather and the second update of being reported.

  • Please could these gullies be cleared so that the rain water can drain away and not create a huge puddle which causes flooding across the road here. I was nearly in an accident yesterday evening after driving through the village and then very slowly on the other side of the road to avoid this flooding when a car came from Howe Hill direction, driving too fast into the village of Cookley Green which is also on a bend. Don’t know how we missed each other. I’ve now reported this problem about 3/4 times and nothing has been done. There were a lot of showers yesterday afternoon to cause this flooding and the water was still there this morning.

  • Obviously still hasn't been investigated since my intital report on 26/04/24 and the latest on 11/06/24. It's still a major problem when there's a lot of heavy rain which doesn't drain away because the 2 gullies are blocked

  • I can confirm there is a potential accident waiting to happen . Why in the current condition where flood is temporary lights be set up so traffic can at least pass safely through shallowest part of flood. Does highways not appreciate that unfamiliar drivers might speed into this flood at night causing an accident. It has been like it for over a week . Drivers do not want to be forced into flood water not knowing what might be lying beneath surface !
