Once again a gate is blocking the Marston Cycle Path

Reported via desktop in the Suggested improvements category anonymously at 00:05, Thursday 11 April 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The gate at the end of the alley between Croft Road and the park is locked closed again. This seems to happen every time workmen do something in the park. Then we cyclists complain about it and the gate gets locked open until the next time work is done.

Why has this gate been installed? It blocks access for bicycles to the start of the Marston Cycle Path. When it is closed it forces bicycles to mount the kerb where there is no dip and puts cyclists in direct competition with pedestrians in the narrow gaps at either end of the gate. This is an accident waiting to happen.

SUGGESTION: Remove the gate.

ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION: Replace the gate with one or more removable bollards.

  • The gate is still locked. Could it please be unlocked again until it gets removed.

  • After locking the gate open for 3 or 4 weeks (thank you for that!), it has got locked shut again for the lat 2 or 3 weeks. Please open igt again and put a sign on it telling people not to shut it. Or, as I said before, remove it.

  • The gate is currently open so thank you for that. But it was closed for a few days recently after being open for several days and closed for several weeks prior to that. Could you try to arrange that it stays open. Thanks.
