No visability A4130

Reported via desktop in the Hedges category anonymously at 14:46, Saturday 6 April 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

This is very serious as putting people at danger and causing accidents. The Laurel hedging opposite Milton Hill House hotel is very high and on a bend makes it impossible to see oncoming vehicles, and have been many accidents as cars going to fast up Abingdon road from A34, and it’s a “take pot luck” to proceed, I myself have nearly been smashed into, but potentially a life and death situation. It needs traffic lights to prevent this as a matter of urgency, slow traffic calming or even a mirror. There is a “SLOW” very faded road marking approx 100 meters before the turning but can hardly see. Thank you

  • Thank you for your report. Upon completion of our investigation I would like to let you know that we have added it to our schedule for 2024/25 financial year for the road markings to be refreshed and vegetation Cut/trimmed to improve visibility.
Please note that The county do not provide or support the use of road mirrors on the highway. The image they provide can be misleading in terms of vehicle speed and distance giving drivers a false sense of security, potentially leading to vehicles emerging injudiciously. They are prone to vandalism, fogging in poor atmospheric conditions and glare from the sun or car headlights. If however permission is granted by a landowner adjacent to but off the highway and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the County, a suitable post and mirror may be erected.
