Poor/no road markings to establish if single or dual lane

Reported via desktop in the Road Markings category anonymously at 14:13, Thu 21 March 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

There is an issue with the curbridge road roundabout which meets deer park road and thorney leys road. despite there being no visible road markings to suggest the roundabout has two lanes, drivers are using the roundabout in that manner, and despite the fact i am indicating to turn right, if there is enough room cars will undertake me causing near collisions. the same occurs with cars overtaking at the give way or on the roundabout. Due to the road markings and the highway code i am not assuming that there is two lanes just because there is room but i am encountering near misses from car drivers as a result. I would like clarification of the highway rule by either painting lanes to show all that this is the case, or signage displaying single lane to show all that this is the case. Thanks, Lee

    Dear Lee,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We have added this location to our lining maintenance list.

With regards to the roundabout, this design has been implemented at this location to accommodate wide variety of vehicles using it, including HGV’s traveling to and from various trading estates, shops, etc., hence wide approach to the roundabout. This design allows free flow of traffic and with speed limits of 20 mph and 30 mph there should be no major issues. It is a standard roundabout with existing signage indicating it as such, therefore basic Highway Code and general safety rules apply. Any near misses or dangerous driving should be reported to Thames Valley Police - you can report dangerous or bad driving by calling the police or submitting your witness report online after the event, please visit https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/ ro/ report/ rti/ rti-beta-2.1/ report-a-road-traffic-incident/ .
