Kissing Gate Flooded from field, water runs into road
Reported via desktop in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 17:25, Fri 8 March 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
I reported this to the rights of way dept but was asked to redirect to this platform. Water floods from the field into the road during periods of heavy rainfall. The kissing gate as part of a public footpath, is set lower than the field (or the farmer has raised the level of the field since the gate was installed.) This means walkers have to step up into the field from the gate. Water collects at this point in wet weather.

Thank you for your report. Our gully cleansing contractor has encountered difficulties in clearing the pipes to restore the drainage system’s functionality. The Oxfordshire County Council will now conduct additional investigations to determine the root cause of the drainage system failure and propose a solution. While we oversee highway drainage, it’s essential to consider other potential factors. These may include involvement from other service providers like Thames Water, or the issue could be related to a private ditch, stream, or culvert.
