Village shop sign once again restricting visibility

Reported via desktop anonymously at 18:28, Thursday 7 March 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council 1 minute later

The sign for Ascott under Wychwood village shop has once again been placed in such a position as to restrict visibility while looking left when crossing over or turning right at the junction of Brasswell Gate and the B4437, not only that but any traffic coming from the Charlbury direction would miss the turn to London Lane down to Ascott by the time they had seen the sign. If they want to advertise the shop, placing it a 100 yards back towards Charlbury would give drivers time to slow down and make the turn safely. Given the speed at which people drive on that stretch of road it is a dangerous junction to negotiate anyway without having to edge out into the road to see properly

  • With reference to the above complaint, can you tell me if any action has been or will be taken to remove the sign. I had a near miss this morning as a motorcycle was in the blind spot while looking left when I attempted to cross the road to Ascott

  • The sign restricting vision is still in place, do you have any updates as to when it will be moved please.
