Deep trenches on both sides of the roads

Reported via mobile in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 22:22, Thu 22 February 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

5inch drops to each side of the road - been there for about a year now and a massive hazard, especially when it’s been raining lots and they’re overflowing.

Council ref: ENQ24993728

  • This HAS NOT been repaired and it's not safe to stop to take photos. I'd suggest one of your team driving from Hagbourne to Chilton and back to see the issues on both sides of the roads

  • Update on 31st July 2024, this problem continues to get worse, with erosion of the road on both sides of the carridgeway leading to the road becoming narrower. It is increasingly dangerous, and causing a risk that an accident may occur, especially if a larger vehicle like lorry may drive off the side of the road and get wheels stuck in these large channels on each side. This problem needs to be fixed asap, and especially before darker nights begin in Autumn which will make it harder for drivers to see and avoid this danger. As mentioned by another person, this affects multiple sections of this road.

  • Terribly deep gulleys and very dangerous.

Posted anonymously at 01:15, Fri 9 August 2024

  • Updated to add an example why deep gulleys could be problem on this road - today (Monday 12th August 2024) at lunchtime (12:50pm), there was a wide load farm vehicle driving along this road, with accompanying car with "wide load" sign. The wide farm vehicle was having to drive on grass verge as it was too wide to fit in one lane and there was traffic on the opposite side including fairly wide everyday traffic such as a car towing a caravan. I passed the wide load vehicle at top of the hill, but it would have probably been very difficult for it to maneuver past cars on opposite side of the road as it probably could not drive on the grass verge due to deep gulleys.

  • I can also confirm that the problems exist all along the road from the Chilton village boundary sign all the way to the bottom of Hagbourne Hill at the roundabout. It is getting worse on both sides of the road in multiple different places. This needs fixing urgently before there is a serious accident.
