Overgrown hedges encroaching onto Eaton Road (straight) National Speed Limit Road
Reported via mobile in the Hedges category anonymously at 17:25, Tue 6 February 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
The hedges along both side of the Eaton Road - known locally as the Eaton Straight are completely over grown. I have now been reporting this issue for a number of years. The last time I spoke to our Area Technician Hannah Wood in October 2023 she said she would send the landowner a vegetation notice. I'm assuming this was sent and if so appears to have been ignored. This is a National Speed limit road and without the hedges and grass verges cut there is no safe refuge for walkers to move off the road when vehicles approach. The hedges were used a number of years ago as part of a hedge laying competition and for a number of years were maintained. Sadly this no longer happens, having walked the road today I was concerned at times I couldn't get off the road way. There is hardened mud on the road in parts and various areas of poor road surfaces including pot holes. Which will be subject to another report. However the hedges need cutting from before the Christmas Barn on Eaton Road all the way towards Eaton and the St Johns allotments. Approx 1 mile stretch of road. Please issue another vegetation notice as a matter of urgency if not already done and check the work is carried out.

Investigating is a most irritating term, especially when nothing actually happens. You’ve been investigating for the last four years, how long does it take for you to enforce action by the landowner to cut the hedges??

It’s now Tuesday 26th March, no work has taken place. Bird nesting season is due to begin and OCC appear not to have done anything about getting the landowner to cut the hedges. We now have to wait for another season to pass.!

Thank you for your report and apologies for the delay in a response. Could you please let us know if this is still an issue or if this has now been resolved? If this is still an issue, if possible and safe to do so, could you please provide any new images and detailed location information of the issue so we can get this raised for repair faster. Many thanks and kind regards

You have asked me to provide an update which I am doing. As you can see the hedges have not been cut, just grown out more onto the verge.
Please make the farmer cut the hedges during the winter. Or cut them and charge him. This has been a ridiculous situation that has got worse year on year. If you are unsure who the landowner is please contact me directly you have a record of both my email and phone number.
