30 signs gone ?vandalism

Reported via desktop in the Traffic Signs category anonymously at 16:02, Mon 5 February 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 6 minutes later

As you enter chawley from cumnor on cumnor hill road, there were 30 signs either side of the road. These seem to have disappeared. One has been haphazardly replaced with a 40 (wrong and dangerous). There are no more 30 signs to be seen for at least the next mile in towards botley, i’m sure there were more.

  • Yes, I've noticed the same. I'm sure the sign you describe was a 30 until a couple of days ago. I assume there are no other signs as if not signed and the road has lighting etc I remember from my learner days that the road was 30 by default.

  • I've just come back from the area. Wonky 40 sign on left side of the road and 30 still clearly marked on the road at the same point - someone has definitely been switching signs.

  • The sign is still there. Please can this be escalated? 30 MPH signs have been removed and a fake 40 MPH has been added. Drivers are now routinely breaking the speed limit on the road (it is clear they are as there is a flash sign further down at the correct 30 MPH limit that continually flashes). Really, there should also be other 30 MPH repeaters on that road.

  • Signs vandalised and the exit from Cumnor hill sign has also been vandalised with rude graffiti

  • Really not acceptable. Needs fixing again as cars are going even faster than before approaching the top of Cumnor hill. Is very dangerous exiting driveway

  • Can a speed bump be installed at the same site as this would make people slow down?

  • What about several repeaters? I’m sure whoever is doing this will be less inclined to do so in a lit part of the road closer to cctv cameras near the Volvo etc.

  • Both 30 signs have been defaced as has the Cumnor Hill sign. It is really sad that people behave like this.

  • Signs and fence have been vandalised and it is contributing to the ongoing speeding down the hill - I live near the 30 mph speed warning sign and it is *busy*, The 60 section needs de-rating and, ideally a speed camera on the change to the 30 limit. Both of our cats were killed by speeding cars.

  • There is also spray vandalism on another sign.same junction, very Slightly further in towards town. On a small yellow square sign facing cumnor which is on the back of a much larger sign facing town.
