Foot/cycleway dangerously overgrown

Reported via mobile in the Report a tree problem category by Elizabeth Bell at 14:15, Wed 24 January 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

Large trees/ivy at both sides of this very busy foot and cycle way are dangerously overgrown. The path is the main doorway between Southwold and Bure Park. It is used daily by large amounts of children, adults, cyclists, scooters, push chairs. The vegetation has narrowed the footway to less than half it's space meaning it's very difficult for people using the path. In the dark there is no lighting on this section of path due to the trees which prevent the street lights from lighting it up. It has been like this for some months (as you can see) however winter has not assisted as the plants are evergreen!

  • This cycle and footpath now narrows from at least 4m wide to around 1m. It is an incredibly busy cycle/footway between 2 main roads, local school and bus route access.

  • I live locally and have also reported this. It's dangerous, slippy, and there's even a fence that's falling into the footpath. No lines to separate cycles from pedestrians. It's completely overlooked and ignored since the first report in Jan.

  • The pathway is now even more overgrown, thanks to the summer months. All adjoining pathways are also still not cleared, 8 months since the original report. Here is what I and other residents expect to happen:

Cut back all shrubs and trees Scrape the ground clear of detritus Reveal the public lighting and clean it Repair the delineation between footpath and cycleway Repair the fence post separating the private carpark Collection of all trash including the numerous dog waste bags Installation of dog waste containers at both ends of the pathway
