Black ice at the foot of Upper Road, Kennington

Reported via desktop in the Ice/Snow category anonymously at 21:05, Tuesday 9 January 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Black ice tends to form at the bottom of Upper Road, where it meets Kennington Road at the mini roundabout. This is a recurring issue during cold weather, but spray from cars driving through nearby floodwater has made it worse. It is a particular danger to cyclists (from painful experience), and presumably to cars braking while approaching the roundabout downhill.

Council ref: ENQ24987255

  • People are still reporting black ice both at the bottom of the slip road and along the road outside Egrove Park under the overpass. Several people have come off their bikes the last one reported at 8:30am this morning. Please will you provide grit to alleviate this issue before their is a more serious accident.
