Thames Water fixed the leak at the corner of St Johns Road and Vale Avenue yesterday, and have today restored the surface around the leak location. The consequent pool of water in Vale Avenue has cleared. However a visual inspection shows that the problem drain is still blocked. The attached diagram shows the location of the blocked drain. It is full of leaves to just below the grid as you can see in attached image, taken 15:19 today. Visual inspection shows the other grids clear down several feet to water in the drain below.

The mud around the blocked drain was cleaned today. Many thanks. But the drain itself remains full of leaves as you can see in the attached picture, taken at 16:14 on 16 Jan.

I forgot to add. This drain lies in a high flood risk area along Vale Avenue (see the flood risk map for Grove). Since it lies in the lowest part of Vale Avenue it is important that the drain is clear so as to mitigate the flood risk.

In response to your enquiry and the numerous others we have received regarding the recent flooding and associated drainage issues. We understand the inconvenience and distress that such incidents can cause, and we appreciate your patience as we work to address these concerns. Our team has been working diligently to assess the situation and implement necessary measures to mitigate the impact of flooding. However, due to the volume of enquiries and the complexity of the issues at hand, we have been unable to address each individual report.
Therefore, after much thought we have decided to close down reports relating to drainage matters during the winter months as after investigating the data it was apparent that many of the fixmystreet reports/issues were caused by the sheer volume of rainwater that fell meaning that the drainage system was unable to cope due to ground water saturation. We are aware of many areas across the county where flooding occurred and are currently working in conjunction with district and parish council towards addressing these issues.
If you feel your enquiry does not fall within the scope of the above, please raise a new report with a detailed description including photos where possible/ safe to do so via www.fixmystreet.comhttp://www.fixmystreet.com.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Rest assured; we are committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible.
