Drainage ditch oveflowing onto highway
Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 19:37, Wed 3 January 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
Water from the drainage ditch is spilling onto the highway and returning to the ditch shortly after, implying that there is a blockage in the ditch. As a consequence where the traffic management restriction is traffic is being forced to drive through a flooded section of road that should remain dry if the drainage ditch is cleared to allow free water flow.

This problem has led to internal and external flooding of an adjacent property (Frogmore). We would be grateful if you could address this urgently.

Now that the water level has dropped, it is clear to see how the blockage of this drainage ditch has resulted in an overflow onto the adjacent highway. Removal of this undergrowth and foliage should allow free water flow in the ditch and minimise future flooding of the highway.

Currently the road is flooded across its full width at this traffic (mis)management area. Vehicles are being forced to drive through the deepest water because of the installed obstruction / chicane on the higher section! The adjacent drainage ditch needs urgent attention to remove blockages that divert the water directly onto the highway before it can return to the same ditch further downstream. This was reported a month ago. Has this been officially inspected yet?

Months later and the ditch remains blocked with vegetation ready to divert water back onto the road again after rain. Now, while the water level is low, would be an ideal opportunity to remove this material and so minimise the probability of further road flooding at this narrow pinch point in the road.
