Noise from poor road surface along Dunmore road.

Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 16:48, Sun 26 November 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There is a new pelican crossing near the junction of Dunmore road and parsons mead. When this crossing was constructed the existing road surface was scraped so much that it’s caused holes, which has caused a loud noise when vehicles pass this stretch of road. Local neighbours have constantly complained as it’s affecting their sleep. I have noticed that the last person who complained was told that the noise was caused by the laying of a high friction surface. This a resin surface to stop skidding but as you can see in my photo, there’s no high friction surface. In fact this poor road surface would probably contribute to a car actually skidding. I hope someone from your department could actually visit the road and inspect it please. I will also be writing to Oxfordshire county council.

  • There has been some high friction surfacing laid in advance of the signal crossing for road safety reasons. This surfacing is a standard product which does not increase noise to unacceptable levels and so we are satisfied that the design and construction is acceptable.

  • I have been told that my report on the poor road surface along Dunmore Road is again closed due to a high friction surfacing being laid. As you can see by my photos attached, there’s no new surface and you can actually see where the surface was constantly scraped with an excavator whilst service and new work to the new development along this road was carried out.
