New road markings causing confusion

Reported via mobile in the Road Markings category anonymously at 06:38, Thu 28 September 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

New give way markings have caused confusion as this junction was always interpreted as a crossroads. I have seen people stop to go straight on as they have to give way but cant indicate to turn off and the car behind has had to brake sharply. This was driving into the estate, with the community centre on the right. Either the give way should be on opposite approaches or can this be upgraded to a mini roundabout?

  • This is still a serious problem, as drivers are unable to indicate that they are heading straight on Longford park road onto songthrush road or straight onto hobby road. This paired with reduced vision as you approach the bend round Longford park road is incredibly dangerous. On numerous occasions drivers have headed straight on at speed in front of a driver waiting to turn left onto songthrush, resulting in several near misses and emergency stops.

  • Dangerous and confusing. Would be better to have a mini roundabout so all traffic slows when approaching the junction.

  • Completely agree that this junction is nothing but unsafe. It is completely not intuitive and goes against the ‘temporary’ signs that were previously in place for years. Suddenly some lines were painted and the rules of the road were different! Everybody ends up stopping to check around the corner, despite right of way or lack of OR continuing with their journey without slowing regardless as it is not understood who has right of way. Either is as bad as each other. I too have witnessed SO many near misses here. It won’t be long before there is a serious accident if not resolved.

  • Completely agree with the above. The junction is dangerous, goes against common sense, and the only reason we havent had multiple car crashes is because people are being extra cautious and driving very slowly at this junction. It is terribly marked and will almost certainly lead to an accident, the council will surely be held in some part responsible. What’s worse, it is outside a school!

  • This junction has had a few accidents in the past and lining was felt to be the best option. The lining orientation was placed like this after consultation with the developer. A mini roundabout was discussed, but could not be placed as the area is not big enough. We are reviewing the situation with the developer. We are not currently aware of any accidents since the lining has been placed.
