Can Better Efforts Be Made to Save Abingdon in General from Economic Disaster?

Reported via desktop anonymously at 10:25, Tuesday 19 September 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council 1 minute later

Better efforts are needed to save Abingdon from impending Economic Disaster. We already have The Upper Reaches Problem and it looks like Beeefeater may follow suite. Peacocks has been derelict for years, its too small a surface size for Big Out of Town Players to be interested and in a horrible location. Many small 'shops'in Abingdon are Dickensian, tiny dark windows, ancient plumbing, rotting frames. High rents and taxes for what? Where is the vibrant imaginative influx of investors and developers lining up to invest in Abingdon retail? Abingdonians are poorly served. We need big bright modern windows full of the latest goods. Bulldozing a good part of the past sell by precinct might be necessary. Its now becoming apparent that on top of this managed decline The Authorities have made some sort of a decision to abdicate the maintenance of the streets and grounds to a great extent? Its true the old scenario of a town where people would visit be entertained by a pot pourri of shops then go home and a jolly good day was had by all is long gone in the age of online and out of town. But its a disgrace that an expanding town of this size has no fishmonger butcher or baker restaurants worth the name
