Confusing signs leading to Barton and Bayswater/Waynflete Roads

Reported via desktop in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 19:22, Thursday 7 September 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

In July 2022 our car was struck by a following van which tried to undertake on its way to the A40, when we were signalling correctly in the lane off the roundabout in the direction of Bayswater /Waynflete Road. Our car was damaged and repaired by our insurance company as a NO Fault claim and the other driver was held fully responsible.

The same type of accident almost happened on 6 Sep.23 in the same circumstances, where a following SUV attempted to undertake on its way to the A40. The vehicle had then to swerve to avoid my car and turn round by the church to continue to the A40. Both vehicles in these two incidents were not local to Oxford.

I request that the part of the lane off the roundabout with a left-turn arrow to Barton has a BARTON ONLY sign added to it or some hatching to differentiate the lane to Barton from the A40 lane and the straight lane to Bayswater Road to prevent further accidents or near misses from those not familiar with this part of the roundabout.

  • Please can you supply more information as I am having difficulty interpreting the incident from the description and location of the pinpoint. A sketch showing the location on the roundabout with the direction of travel for each vehicle would be helpful for us to explore a possible solution..

Any reply would need to highway.enquiries@oxfordshire.gov.uk
