What is the road speed?

Reported via mobile in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 20:15, Tuesday 5 September 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

A new speed of 20 MPh has been introduced at Mercham Road between McDonald's and the double round about. However, no signs are there to tell what is the speed at Oak Street after the double round about.

Can you please clarify what is the speed at Oak Street?

  • Seems the whole centre of Abingdon is going ahead with 20mph. New signs have been put up all over town in a number of places in past few days. Also go ahead has been given to The Northcourt Road School new Zebra crossing according to Oxford Mail today on the already heavily humped Northcourt Road. Sad that all these measures are required but anti social drivers have just abused their freedom over the years. Many appear down right criminal touting large flashy US style Monster vehicles, speedster boy racers, unlicencsed e scooters, quad and scramblers without helmets(& possibly a whole lot more)parking on grass verges pavements and so on. Anti social drivers!

  • Thank you for your enquiry into the Abingdon 20mph scheme.

The 20mph limit signage is still currently being installed and once the signs are in place the 20mph limit will cover much of what was 30mph including Ock St.
Unfortunately due to the size of the scheme there will be an unavoidable transition period as the signage goes in.

The signage in this location has been noted and we are working with the contractor to minimise this transition phase and remove any contradicting signage.
