Sink hole repair is already starting to fail

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 14:35, Saturday 2 September 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

As was reported on 10th May in https://www.fixmystreet.com/ report/ 4536877 and which received Council Reference Number ENQ23961042, there was and still is a sink hole on Brereton Drive. It was labelled as a sink hole with the white paint markings last time it was reported and assurances were made by the council that it would be investigated and fixed properly instead of patching over it with more tarmac. Unfortunately the company doing the fix has just patched with more tarmac without investigating why the road has been sinking in this spot for the past few years.

The vibrations caused by busses and lorries driving over this patch shake the foundations of our house. When I am upstairs and my wife is downstairs, we both feel the ground shake when these large vehicles go by and we hear the ceilings making cracking sounds.

The patches cannot continue being the solution. The reason why the road is collapsing needs to be investigated and the road needs to be made sound again. I know the photos I've attached don't look like much of a problem, but rest assured that the dip and the roughness of the road leading up to the new patch are causing very significant vibrations, plus the level of the patch has dropped since it was first applied so I know the road is still sinking.

Please, do not overlook the severity of this issue. It needs proper investigation and a long term fix made. My own concern is obviously for my property, but I also wonder whether there is a drain collapsing beneath the road which will eventually block and cause major problems for lots of people in the local area.
