Hedge overgrowing pavement

Reported via desktop in the Grass and Hedges category anonymously at 17:06, Saturday 22 July 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The hedge is impinging on the pavement and it's getting narrower and narrower. People have to walk in the road, especially when raining.

  • The hedge is really encroaching on the pavement and it is imperative that it's cut before the children go back to school as they use this pathway.

  • The hedge still hasn't been cut back and my neighbour was narrowly missed by a car as he had to step into the road to pass it.

  • Thank you for your report. Here is a further update: I have revisited the site you pinpointed on the map, by 18 Finmore Road, at various times, and assessed the issue that you have identified. The owners of 18 Finmore Road, have been issued with further notices, to cut back their vegetation that is overgrowing and obstructing our Finmore Road & Montagu Road footways, and we are currently awaiting their response. I am therefore closing this report.

Landowners and occupiers are required to trim any hedge on their property that is next to the public highway where the growth is preventing the passage, or affecting the safety, of the highway user. In this instance the highway does appear to be obstructed from full use. The land/property owner will be contacted and if action is not untaken we will follow up accordingly.
