Proposed shared cycleway

Reported via desktop anonymously at 14:58, Fri 23 June 2023

Sent to Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Planning reference 23/00976/F Transport Schedule “Shared off road cycling and walking facility between Crow Lane in Great Bourton and School Lane in Cropredy”

In response to your Transport Policy, advising the construction of a shared cycleway from Great Bourton to Cropredy I would like to share my grave concerns as to the safety of such a proposal. The steep gradient from Crow Lane to Cropredy School will encourage cyclists to travel at excessive speed downhill, endangering the lives of pedestrians and other cyclists alike. If this proposal goes ahead it will force pedestrians to walk in the road to keep clear of speeding cyclists. Whilst I would embrace a shared facility to save money, in the case of a steep hill such a strategy would be foolhardy and dangerous.
