Blocked drains and culvert caused flooding

Reported via mobile by Karen Spackman at 13:45, Monday 12 June 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council 1 minute later

The drains and culverts along the A417 from Chilton Road along to High Street and Prospect Road are blocked. This means water from Chilton Road, The Lynchway and the Road up to Alden Farm all converge on the corner of the A417 and Prospect Road causing flood damage to Hunters Moon and Wattle Cottage.

I have attempted to clear the drains in the storm yesterday and this morning, which is not safe on the A417, but as the drains are not working as they should I have a choice of trying to do something and minimising the damage (which is dangerous) or have even more to clear up afterwards.

This has been an ongoing issue, neither the drainage ditch, nor the drop kerb opposite nor the raised bar across the end of the Lynchway are upkept, which results in gravel on a dangerous corner where vehicles speed and accidents are common.

  • Once again, Hunters Moon has suffered with flood water. Nothing has been done to change anything that happened 10 days ago apart from my attempts at clearing the drains.

The temporary measure of sandbags may have helped, but they were not provided.

There is a layer of silt on my driveway, my garage, my path and my garden again, there is also debris on the A417 which causes a danger on a corner where traffic typically speeds.
