Give way signs for cyclists contradict highway code rules

Reported via desktop in the Suggested improvements category anonymously at 13:12, Wed 12 April 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Give way markings for cyclists on the A40 cycle path contradict new highway code rules.

I was almost taken out by a driver yesterday who turned off from the A40 into the Home Farm driveway. He pointed to the give way markings saying he had right of way. He would have seen me coming but didn't slow down forcing me to break sharply in wet conditions and almost when over the handlebars.

According to the new highway code rules, vehicles should give way when turning into or out of a junction. Therefore, the giveaway markings should be placed on the exit of Home Farm and not on the cycle path.

  • How can you close a report that unequivocally demonstrates a breach of regulations without addressing the issue. That is not how safety management works.
