Severe flooding outside 47 Wallingford Road, Cholsey

Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 02:07, Sat 1 April 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This flooding has been ongoing for years and is progressively getting worse. The drain outside 47 Wallingford Road was last cleaned on 06/07/21. At that time one of your representatives attended a meeting with us (the householders) and she arranged for work to be carried out to rectify the problems with the drain. The drain and pathway were marked up to show where the work was to take place and nothing has happened since. We have complained about the problems with the drain many times and each time our complaints were closed, saying that the problem had been fixed. As you can see this clearly is not the case. We are extremely worried that we will end up with a flooded property. We cannot enter or exit our property safely when it rains as traffic driving through the flooding causes the water to come up over our wall (approximately 6ft) and through our gates. The continuous soaking from flood water is causing damage to our wall, which is totally unacceptable. We cannot use our front garden when the road is flooded, as we run the risk of getting totally drenched due to the flood water coming on to our property which again is unacceptable. The rain on 31/03/23 caused the entire width of the road to flood, right over the pavement and the kerb could not be seen. We had to use the pavement to exit and enter our property and our feet were totally under water. Our children use this pavement to get to school and are constantly getting soaked due to the flooding. We are extremely concerned that there will be a serious accident because of the flood water and also because the kerb is invisible when it floods and could easily be struck by a vehicle. THIS NEEDS URGENT ATTENTION.

  • Yet again after average rainfall this is the state of the road this morning (10/04/23). As you will see our boundary wall is getting yet another bashing. If we did not have this wall our property would be flooded. I did ask last week for someone to contact me but I have heard nothing. I would be grateful if someone could get in touch regarding this problem as soon as possible. Many thanks.
