Narrow cycle lanes not fit for purpose

Reported via desktop in the Suggested improvements category anonymously at 12:00, Mon 13 March 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

To be clear, this too narrow type of gutter lane along Faringdon Rd, and other locations in Abingdon, is not fit for purpose and potentially dangerous for any cyclist to cycle in.

Potentially dangerous because of road side debris, and because they encourage drivers to close pass cyclist in them. This lane type is against all road positioning advice given to cyclists regarding cycling a safe distance away from the kerb.

This type of lane really represents provision which offers no benefit to cyclists at all.

In one place the bike symbol has been repainted, the degraded lines not. In any event arguably the safest option is to remove all of these lanes.

PLEASE DO NOT REPAINT. REPLACE with something more effective, such as a much wider prominent lane, improved signage, and even large bike symbols. Anything is better than the status quo.
