Exit from subway toward town centre unlit

Reported via desktop anonymously at 16:46, Tuesday 21 February 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council less than a minute later

The private light (C10) hasn't been working for some time and whilst this isn't the responsibility of OCC it does mean that the whole up/down ramp for the subway on the town side is unlit. If the owners of the charter can't be persuaded to fix/operate the light, then OCC needs to look at adding some form of additional lighting to the downside subway ramp to make it safer and more appealing to use in the dark. This whole area is a bit of a ghetto.

  • Yeah the main lamp outside the Poundland passage was also unlit for many weeks. It was pitch black there by dark. I sometimes wonder if the whole Charter Malthouse 'Ghetto'as you put it is haunted or cursed with what the Arabs call 'ginns'? (Evil Spirits)Did some tragic event occur here in times past? (Apart from the building of Stratton Way cutting the town in half? I only say this because every day without fail it seems to act as a magnet to the discontened drop out youths of the town who congregate here in a sort of fraternity the sole purpose of which seems to be to give verbal abuse at the top of their pipsqueak voices and throwing litter making as back a mess as is humanly possible. Stirring up trouble and pathetically seeking attention. Perhaps their parents washed their hands of them long ago (if they have any parents-a number seem to be 'in care'at our expense) Ghetto indeed. The cry of Abingdon lacks discotheques and ping pong clubs for the yoof has been heard since at least the early 1970s as far as I remember. Knocking down the Regal was a dumb move. I know I was one of those bored teenagers. But i chose to' get on my bike' and go find employment in Abingdon & elsewhere. It would never have even occurred to me to sit around the centre of Abingdon on a park bench griping in the cold making a complete mess and pig of myself. You get nowwhere in life that way.
