Traffic speed on Morrell Avenue

Reported via desktop in the Highway Schemes category anonymously at 10:15, Thursday 26 January 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Following on from my recent complaint about traffic speed on Morrell Avenue which you dealt with unsatisfactorily and closed. I’ve been speaking to another member of the resident’s association who tells me they have complained to the Council re traffic speed on the Avenue and was told to contact the police which they did. The police said that the Council are required to authorise the police to action the speed limit which you have so far failed to do. Why has this happened and when will you allow the police to enforce the limit or will you wait until there is a terrible accident.

  • Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and found that it does not currently meet the criteria for intervention, so will not be fixing at this time.

So issue here it's signed that Morrell Avenue is 20mph Zone. And we have Implemented this along the road. But if individuals are speeding and driving in a dangerous manner. This is a criminal offence which does need to be reported to Police. For them to deal with it. Unfortunately it's not in jurisdiction to police peoples actions and driving mannerisms. If police do get enough reports then it's down for them to deal with it.

So i have linked link to RAC website ( https://www.rac.co.uk/ drive/ advice/ road-safety/ reporting-dangerous-driving-how-to-recognise-and-report-reckless-driving/ ) in how to deal with this, one the things they mention is (Reporting dangerous or careless driving relies on evidence. If you see a driver putting others at risk make sure you note their registration number, the make, model and colour of their car, the time and location of the incident and any other useful information.

If it’s safe for you to record the incident, this will also help, as some police forces provide portals for reporting crime that allow video uploads.)

I hope this is more help to yourselves.
