Road impassable due to hedge growth
Reported via desktop in the Grass and Hedges category anonymously at 13:52, Thursday 5 January 2023
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 35 minutes later
The hedge/tree row that backs onto Priory Copse is overgrown and vehicles can now not get past, the growth is now so overgrown that the council bin lorries and more importantly fire engines cannot get past at all. Cars are now parking on the footpath, which is causing us issues as we cannot get along the path with our daughters wheelchair. Council bin lorries cannot get past to collect the wheely bins, so the refuse men reverse the bin lorries half way down the road to where the overgrown hedge and parked cars are, then the refuse men walk down to the bottom of the road to collect the bins, empty them and then just leave them on the path by the bin lorry, as they don't want to trudge down to the bottom of the hill to return them. The real worrying thing is if there is a fire and fire engines cannot get down to the 5 bottom houses in the street due to the restriction. The hedge row has been like this for nearly 12 months and now getting worse, it will only get worse with the coming Spring and new growth. This was reported to the council (Council ref: ENQ22935245) and then closed down today as complete and the situation being monitored! What is there to monitor, the road cannot be driven down.

Today we had a knock the door from the council bin collection as they could not reverse down the street due to the limited width of the road due to the hedge growth. The driver and drivers mate both stated that they had also reported the issue and nothing had been done, they intend to report the issue again today. I was even parked on the footpath and they could still not get past, luckily I was in to move the vehicle. Please get this situation sorted out as it is only going to get worse.

Thank you for your enquiry. I have visited the site and assessed the problem that you have identified. Unfortunately it does not meet our current intervention criteria so I cannot arrange a repair. We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections.
