Large pothole

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 18:38, Thu 22 December 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

A large pothole has formed on the B4449 around 70m from the bend at Bell Bridge near Sutton. It is on the carriageway leading to Sutton. It is right next to an inspection cover. I hit it at night and would guess it is quite large and I think it is dangerous to narrow tyred cars and cycles especially. I noticed it has appeared after the recent cold snap and I think the frequent heavy tipper lorries that go to Dix Pit are quickly enlarging it.Please try to fix as soon as possible because I predict it will cause damage to vehicles soon if not remedied. Thank you.

  • This pothole gave me a flat tyre and I’ve had to get it replaced! Is there anyway the council could reimburse me for this? This happened on the 27th of December in the evening! I have dash cam footage of me hitting it.

  • I hit this pole hole this afternoon at about 4pm. It must be very deep as I felt go through the whole car. My front left tyre (run flat) was damaged and I have had to order a new tyre at a cost of £144. The car has just had 4 new tyres so this is not great. Hopefully there are no other issues cracked alloy wheel, suspension issues.

  • I have just hit this pothole in the dark, as it's impossible to see. Very dangerous and very deep. The rain today has made it even worse than first reported and it urgently needs fixing.

  • Make sure you send a claim to the council! Its a lengthy process but hopefully you'll be able to get your money back! I've just put mine in as my new tire cost me £138!!

  • I’ve hit this pothole 3 times and it’s a vicious hole, it’s so hard to see easily with the short days and with so much water on the roads, I have to swerve in towards the curb to avoid it.

  • It is the (previously fixed) carriageway surrounding ironworks in the westbound carriageway that is rapidly being torn apart here, resulting in raised iron surrounds to the cover - this very nearly resulted in me coming off my cycle last night as well.

There are now four reports for this - this is probably the best position. Attached is the location from Google Streetview

  • This actually looks like the pothole I hit yesterday (as opposed to my other report but these all might be the same one as there are a few reports on this small stretch of road) and which caused a puncture to my front tyre and possible other damage. It looked like it was next to a manhole cover as well. Please fix ASAP.

  • Hit this last night, scared the living daylights out of me. Made such a loud bang. Had kids in car and had to pull over in lay-by at Sutton. Thankfully seems I got away with no serious damage. So sounded MUCH worse than it was.
