Road Surface degraded at edge of Road - Large lip on Tarmac road that damages tyres
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 17:11, Fri 25 November 2022
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
About 1 month ago I was forced off the road carriage way (Between the White House and Orchard Hill) where the road narrows on the brow of hill (blind summit) and it essentially becomes single carriage passable only by one car. This damaged my tyre which caused a slow puncture and ultimately the complete failure of tyre on the 24th Nov. I got the AA to replace the tyre today (25th Nov) with my space saver so I could then go and get a replacement tyre over the weekend. Unfortunately tonight exactly the same thing happened again, Blind summit with a car in the middle of the road travelling in the other direction forcing me off the Tarmac Road at the same place. This caused the Space Saver Tyre to be punctured. I now of course can not go into town to get the tyre replaced.

Having been back today and measured the road I can confirm the following. The road surface has an 80 to 90mm drop or lip of the edge of the road surface, which damages the internal wall of the tyre when you leave the road. The road has degraded on both sides, so much so there is only 3m 20cm of carriageway left making it impassable for two vehicles. There is no signage to indicate this has in effect now become a single tracked road.

We have investigated your report and have done the following. No safety defects found on the carriageway in the location given which meet Oxfordshire County Council investigatory levels for repair during our inspection. There is evidence of verge overrun in this location, which unfortunately we are unable to prevent.
