Bridge down again!

Reported via iOS in the Bridges category anonymously at 00:43, Mon 21 November 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The bridge has been repaired so many times over the last few years it is ridiculous. There is always a lengthy delay from it being knocked down to being repaired and it was only done a few months ago. It is always left with just bare minimum safety until the repair is done. Please can an investigation be done to make this structurally safe before someone is killed. It is bad enough that cars land in the canal beneath it. It needs some sort of reinforcement as the stones just keep getting replaced and they are not robust enough. Something better needs to be done and the repairs need to be a lot quicker and not left for weeks on end before being looked at. Please prioritise this bridge and find a solution. Thank you

  • Morning,
We as Bridges team have looked at a number of possibilities (i.e. Safety barrier, metal fencing) these are unsuitable for the location. We can't use steel reinforcement in the stone Parapet as there will be risk of causing further damage to the structure if hit .

We have had the signs upgraded and anti skid surfacing in place.

We usually do stone work repair Spring and Summer when the temperature is is warmer.
