Belisha Beacon still not replaced at school crossing
Reported via mobile anonymously at 07:19, Mon 24 October 2022
Sent to Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
There is only one beacon at the school side of this crossing. The road is used as a rat run to the A40. The second beacon was stolen over two years ago. Not having the crossing clearly designated means that someone caught speeding through or not stopping could claim that they did not realise that it was a crossing. Now that it is darker it is very difficult for people to cross safely. It is all very well putting ‘20 is plenty’ advisory signs but the county council is putting lives at risk by de prioritising the replacement of children and other pedestrians.

I’m wondering if there has been an international shortage of Belisha beacons. It’s a month since I reported this issue. It’s now very dark morning and night. Could the relevant person please be encouraged to expedite their response to ‘I’ll be along shortly to resolve this’?

This belisha beacon/zebra crossing light has been missing for well over a year. It is dark at 8am. It needs replacing now please.

Still only one beacon at this busy, rat run crossing. The light on the beaconless side doesn’t work any more so it’s just one beacon bleeping. Are we waiting for someone to be hit on the crossing before action is taken? Cars pelt along this road at well over 50 mph.

It’s nearly a year since I reported this and over two years since the beacon was removed. Why is it taking so long to replace? What investigation does your team need to do other than drive up, see it’s missing, and replace it? These are safety items not decorative? I will certainly be handing over all the correspondence in the event of an incident - and there will be one.
