Traffic Calming required

Reported via desktop in the Highway Schemes category anonymously at 15:57, Wednesday 28 September 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Children now exit the school from the school driveway directly onto the extremely narrow pavement. With cars parked, speeding traffic and no traffic calming measures there will surely be a fatality soon. Due to the narrow pavement parents are often forced to walk on the road, to lead their young children by the hand. Speed bumps or other traffic calming are essentially needed.

Updates

  • TRAFFIC CALMING - We are happy to work with local communities through the Parish Council and local county councillor to develop traffic calming schemes should funding be available.

Speed of vehicles is important to the new administration and officers are working with the Highway Management Cabinet member to increase the coverage of 20mph speed restrictions across Oxfordshire. Proposals for this were approved at the County Council Cabinet.

If there is a perceived problem with speeding vehicles, this needs to be reported directly to the Police.

Traffic calming and speed reduction schemes will be subject to public consultation. Where communities wish to promote schemes and ideas, we request that these be discussed with the Parish council and local county council member and their support for the scheme sought in the first instance.

In terms of prioritising the limited funding we have for traffic calming and small improvement schemes, decisions on this are based on safety and policy priorities with the programme being developed in consultation with the Cabinet member for Highway Management. Officers will assess your constituent’s requests for consideration in future years’ programmes of work. We are currently developing next year’s programme, which includes greater engagement with the local county councillor to put their priority schemes forward for consideration.
