Drainage problems along Skimmingdish Lane

Reported via desktop in the Drainage category anonymously at 20:45, Wednesday 17 August 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This is the third time I am reporting a problem with the drainage and gulley's along Skimmingdish Lane. Everytime we have a heavy downpoor rain runs along the gully towards Buckingham Road, as the road runs slightly down hill. Unfortunately there are to few drain holes for the water to to go into the drains. There are just two very narrow ones between 5 Skimmingdish and 25 Skimmingdish. They are always blocked. So water ends up running into the car park area between no 25 and 27 and then ends up in the front garden of no 27, completely putting the front garden under water. I have suggested in the previous complaint about this that the drainhole under the drain cover is prbably full of soil and sand from when there was heavy construction traffic while the Garden Quarters was renovated. Today, after lots of rain last night and water coming into the garden of no 27 again, we decided to take a look under the drain covers. The access for the water to get to the actual drain underneath is completely filled with soil, under both the said drain covers!! Please see photographs. That soil needs to come out before there is any hope of the few drainage holes to actually have a hope of performing their function. PLEASE can this be sorted now. This is the third time I have reported this.

  • We have investigated your report and all drains are clear (had to push a bit of leaf debris away but fine apart from that) this issue has been added to a programme of work of road drainage clearing.
Oxfordshire County Council prioritises high flood risk areas when considering drainage because of budget constraints but we will monitor reported issues during routine inspections. LINK to planned programme of work.?
