Risk of head on crash due to timing of lights

Reported via mobile in the Current Roadworks category anonymously at 21:02, Mon 15 August 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Regarding the temporary traffic lights over the bridge, the time between one side turning red and the other side turning green is insufficient, and significantly less than on the usual permanent lights in the same locations. This results in a real risk of serious injury, particularly for cyclists who the bridge is supposed to accommodate (as per the road markings) but obviously cannot always travel at 30mph. As an example, I cycled through a green light today and crossed the bridge at approximately 15mph, yet when I got close to the other side cars started driving straight at me resulting in an unplanned evasive manoeuvre. I am a competent cyclist, but wouldn't like this to happen to someone more vulnerable and result in a potentially serious accident. In addition I received abuse from the drivers as they drove at me and I struggled to avoid them, so this also needs to be fixed to minimise further unwarranted anger towards cyclists. Thanks
