Ditch / Drain Maintenance
Reported via desktop anonymously at 15:20, Tue 9 August 2022
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later
If it isn't already scheduled, the ditch between Thorney Leys Rd & the A40 off-slip could do with clearing / desilting.
What I presume is a tumbling bay at the rear of the business park also needs cleaning out / desilting, as does the drain running into it.
The culvert trash screens, both north & south of the A40 crossing, need clearing.
A blockage here was the cause of the 2007 flooding, so we would very much appreciate this being dealt with this summer, please.

Pictures & Update:
The Burwell Meadow drain culvert across Thorney Leys Rd is silted 100mm or so.
The Burwell Meadow drain ditch on Thorney Leys Rd needs clearing & desilting 100-150mm. There is a pipe crossing from ditch which catches debris & dams the drain - this needs investigating & a solution found to keep the channel clear.
The Burwell Meadow drain through the Thames Water site needs clearing of debris & bin bags and desilting at the northern end. TW were supposed to be inspecting this ditch monthly since 2008!
The Burwell Meadow drain A40 culvert is slightly silted & needs clearing - first picture.
The drain running east-west between the Business Park & the A40 off-slip is 50% silted - second picture. OCC were supposed to be cleaning these drains & ditches annually since 2008. It is hard to believe that this is less than 12 months silt!
Colwell Brook (north of the A40) needs clearing of debris. EA were supposed to be doing this annually since 2008. The northern trash screen of the A40 culvert is badly obstructed - third picture. The large amount of old fencing, logs & litter laying on the ground & A40 embankment is an invitation to mischievous kids who throw them into the water - please remove all the debris & rubbish from site.
If you have £8 million for 20 MPH signs, surely you can find a few thousand pounds to prevent us flooding again?

This report has been closed. However the issue has been passed to the relevant team to investigate the drainage under the A40, the clearing of the ditches is a West Oxfordshire District council responsible to enforce.
