Gate closing collins street has been fastened shut with bolts through the chain, instead of a proper lock. this means that emergency vehicles cannot unlock the gate for access

Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
We have reported this to east oxford LTNs but they have not replied within the stipulated 10 days, nor have they attended to put a proper lock in place. the gate has been there for decades, so is not directly affected by the new arrangements, but it is being smashed open periodically for illegal access. the gate ought to be replaced with proper bollards that would NOT have to be removed if the LTNs are abandoned.

I'll come and take it off with my angel grinder. no trouble

We do not think that removing the bolts with an angle-grinder is the answer. the gate needs a proper lock until proper bollards can be installed

No it needs to be removed as a matter of high importance. If emergency services cannot open it then half of East Oxford could be in jeopardy. I'll open it up later today.

By all means remove the incorrect fastening, but the gate MUST be locked shut properly. PLEASE put bollards here

Not really. It's probably better to leave the gate open. I'll sort it out ASAP

NO the gate must NOT be left open. rat-runners are ABUSING this little street and causing DANGER to pedestrians including children and disabled people. so far, responses have been anonymous; we need proper council action PLEASE and SOON

Rat infestation has nothing to do with this gate. The gate doesn't pose a threat to anyone. melodramatic hysterics aren't helping the situation. Anyway I'll cut the gate free later today.

Dear council, bolted shut, the gate blocks emergency access. cut open, the gate allows vehicles illegal and dangerous access through a quiet closed street. please fix this properly, with bollards
