Yellow box junction required on Aldi turn in to protect cyclists

Reported via desktop in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 13:38, Fri 22 July 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Traffic tends to be standstill on Botley road at peak times. This means that for vehicles turning right into Aldi, it's very difficult to see down the cycle path to ensure a cyclist is not oncoming before turning into the junction. If a yellow box junction was placed starting where the white posts have been installed to protect the cycle lane, stretching over the aldi junction then it would be much easier to see an oncoming cyclist when turning right, if motorists obey the yellow box.

I have had problems with this junction both as a cyclist as cars will flash others to turn into the junction, and as a motorist due to the poor visibility.

  • Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and found that it does not currently meet the criteria for intervention, so will not be fixing at this time. As there are cycle lanes on either side of the road if you wanted to turn down into Aldi you would need to use the appropriate crossing just further up from the junction.

    State changed to: Investigation complete
