Dangerous pelican crossing

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 19:25, Mon 7 March 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

I have witnessed numerous near misses at this pelican crossing - with drivers not stopping for pedestrians.. today I witnessed a young boy (maybe 9yo) being knocked off his bike by a driver. My sister and I crossed on foot and the driver hadn't seen us (driver on near side had stopped). He stopped at the last minute avoiding hitting us. We walked passed and turned just in time to see him knock the young boy down. Thankfully he was unhurt, and we walked him home. More needs to be done to ensure drivers stop. This is an ongoing problem at both pelican crossings this end of Iffley Road (Chester and Daubeny).

  • We have investigated your report and have found that visibility is adequate to this crossing. A recent reduction in the speed limits may also give drivers more time to stop. However, Oxfordshire county Council have no powers to enforce against drivers who fail to stop at crossing which should be reported to the Police.
