Gritting needed in frosty/ice conditions

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Cycling home along the left hand side cycle path on Headley way from the John Radcliffe hospital last night (4:15 p.m.), high up path, near the houses, (road much lower down). I fell off due to frosty/iciness on path. It seemed quite a trap, and possibly many others had a similar experience who came down it after me. Would it be possible to grit these areas in cold weather? The type of new tarmac seems to lend itself more to this type of issue, seems to have less natural friction, albeit I recognize ice is ice.
