The ancient footpath from Headington to Elsfield crosses the northern bypass, which was originally built as one carriageway and later a second was added. A continuous crash barrier runs along the central reservation, obstructing this public right of way. A gap needs to be provided at the point of intersection to allow the public to walk the footpath safely and spend as little time as possible in the carriageway. The barrier is positioned eccentric on the central reservation, close to the eastbound traffic, making climbing over the obstruction particularly perilous. Headington Neighbourhood Forum are aware of this report. Public footpath across central reservation is a PROW from before ring road was doubled. NB Report was closed erroneously by FixMyStreet Jan 2021 (without fixing problem), resubmitted accordingly.
