Cycle barrier
Reported via Android anonymously at 12:28, Thursday 13 January 2022
Sent to Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
The barrier in the alleyway running from Green Road past the Guide Centre should be removed. The council has been removing other cycle barriers in Kidlington, but this one still remains. A little while ago I encountered a man in a mobility scooter who was trying to get past the barrier, but found it impossible, largely due, I think, to the step on the Guide Centre. Before the centre was rebuilt, there was no step there, so I suppose that it would have been possible to get past in a mobility scooter. The alley in general is in a terrible condition, the pathway covered in slippery leaves, litter everywhere, overhanging trees (which were once hedges marking the boundaries of adjacent properties) and neglected and potentially dangerous fencing on other properties. Although it is still used by many pedestrians, this alleyway is really not very attractive to cyclists, so removing the barrier would be helpful to people in mobility scooters, while not increasing its use by cyclists. Also, a rubbish bin near the Guide Centre or the dog bin would not come amiss!

Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and there was a recent scheme that took place where the cycle routes around Killington were surveyed and the ones that could be removed were. This one will have been left in for safety reasons.
