Multiple pot holes and deteriorating road surface on this lane

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 08:36, Mon 13 December 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

We live at Chalkwood House to the west of where I've tagged this problem. We have recently had the private lane to the house (owned by Enigma) resurfaced, and the water pipe underneath this section replaced. Having dealt with Thames Water we have been informed that the water pipe is our responsibility from all the way up in Cold Harbour, but it runs at least 200m under public road. The road is now deteriorating to such an extent that we are worried about the ability of the pipe underneath it to withstand the cracks and loads on the road above: we do not want to be left with a very large bill to replace the water pipe which we fear is likely if the road over it is left to deteriorate much further. Rather than just fill in the potholes as has happened here over the last few years we please urge you to completely resurface the public road to avoid this becoming a factor in liability for fixing the water pipe should it burst.

  • Since I reported this problem over 2 months ago there has been no efforts made to repair this stretch of road that is deteriorating significantly. As well as the general wear on the stretch of road running left from the fork in Cold Harbour large individual potholes have appeared near Owl Cottage. These are placing vehicles and users of the right of way at risk and need to be addressed urgently.
