Very dangerous traffic calming

Reported via mobile in the Highway Schemes category anonymously at 23:18, Thu 2 December 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

A new island has been placed here to ‘slow’ traffic. It is placed on a bend and a large tree when coming into Brize Norton blocks full visibility. I have seen many near misses when using on daily commute

  • Dear Wendy,

Thank you for your report and concerns raised within. We are working closely with the developer to have these works completed as soon as possible.

The completed works will have bollards and street lighting to illuminate the cushion to provide enhanced visibility.

The current traffic management is within the guidance and regulation standards, providing advance signage to alert drivers before approaching the cushion.

Recently an independent Road Safety Audit has been undertaken to ensure the current condition and location of the works are safety compliant.

The operation of the cushions around Brize Norton were all observed during the audit and from observations, drivers were reducing speeds and manoeuvring safely around the cushions.

    Kind regards
    Road Agreements Team
